Black Feminist Thought Meets Archival Practice
The black time travel project
About the project
The Black Time Travel Project is facilitated by Dr. Sharla Berry. The Project uses Black Feminist Theory to explore the different ways in which paper craft and digital archival practices can be used to support mindfulness, cultural connection, and Afrofuturist dreaming, especially for Black women.
The Project includes a series of workshops on the following:
Collage Making
Zine Making
Letter Writing
Family Archiving
Time Capsule Creation
why time travel?
Black folks have always moved through space and time in unique ways. From our art —- music, and dance, to our dreaming, to the way we tell past and future histories, our relationship to time remains different. Through engaging with the archive we can keep time and make time. This project highlights different ways that the aforementioned archival practices can help us engage with time. Each workshop will highlight a paper craft practice that helps us focus on the past, present or future.
